In strolling through the garden today, I noticed something that really surprised me. The replacement Double Delight tree, which broke bud so much more quickly than the original one, has its first rosebud! From breaking bud to rosebud in about nine days (and from planting to rosebud in about one month) is pretty extraordinary, especially when you consider that it took the original about a month just to break bud after planting. You can see the rosebud below. Winchester Cathedral, which hasn't bloomed for about two months, has opened a small flower and the variegated Hosta in the front yard has joined the other Hosta in bloom.
