September …

… is already upon us.  The recent rains have finally let up and the newly seeded sections of the lawn are doing quite well thanks to all the water they received.  The roses were less than happy with the weather; I had to remove a number of balled blossoms, always a sad event.  It's a slow time of year for the garden; we have blossoms only on Double Delight, the Mini Roses, Peace, and Sunbright, though Fisherman's Friend has lots of buds which promise an upcoming show and the Abelia is still in bloom, giving us color and fragrance.  This is the time of year when I start leaving the hips on the rose bushes as a none-too-subtle hint to them that autumn is coming.  Here and there, leaves in the garden are beginning to lose their chlorophyll, allowing the yellows and reds to show through.  Soon, the fall will begin, with dying leaves cluttering the lawn.  It's not my favorite time of year at all.
