It’s Enough To Make You Crazy!

Friday, the 15th of December.  It was 62 degrees yesterday and they say it may well reach 65 today.  I noticed when I went outside that the daylily Plum Perfect is sending up new shoots; it appears to have been fooled into thinking that it's spring!  What will happen to it when winter finally arrives for real, if it ever does, remains a mystery.  Why it feels like spring in December with its terribly short days also remains a mystery.  The plants are confused and so am I!

Nice isn't it? I'm enjoying the warmth and so is my bank account after last year's PSE&Gs bill. Dreading when winter finally comes. Seems as tho. winter comes later in Jan or Feb. I noticed this phenomenon about 4-5 years ago. I checked our plants but only a very few bulbs are making a feeble attempt at blooming.  Apparently it's been so warm in Europe that the chestnuts their harbinger of spring is blooming and leafing out. They were concerned that the blooming fruit trees would be a total loss if winter ever shows up. Weird.

I know what you mean… several types of the garlic that I planted in October/November have sprouted and are quite tall! I was hoping that the hellebores would decide to bloom early, too, but they are apparently being obstinate. lol.

Thanks for the comments.  I'm very concerned that the plants that have been fooled by this mild weather will be damaged or destroyed when winter finally arrives (today is technically the first day of winter yet it's 52 degrees outside).  All I can do at this point is hope for the best.
