I was able to take a stroll through the garden as the inches of ice from the last sleet/ice storm have finally melted away. What should meet my wondering eye but hyacinths and daffodils just about ready to bloom! Now, the only question is, is this left over from the false spring of January or is this new, true spring growth? I suppose a week or so will tell as it's supposed to be "springlike" this week. Gee, "springlike" in spring, what an amazing concept in this very strange year. Some of the roses look much the worse for wear, still bearing the now-shriveled tiny leaves from when they broke bud in January. Although I only know with certainty the fate of Showbiz (it will be shovel pruned very soon to make way for Mme. Isaac Pereire, once the ground thaws), I'm afraid that the false spring will have doomed at least a few of the others.
