Golden Showers |
This is the large flowered climber Golden Showers. It produces a large profusion of blossoms throughout the growing season. If left to it's own devices, it will easily grow outward (with support) to 15-20'. It has a very mild, pleasing fragrance.
The first rose of 1999 -- Golden Showers!
Golden Showers is now (3rd week of May 1999) well into its first flush, covering the arbor with blooms.
Golden Showers has joined all the others in putting on a final flush for 1999,
Golden Showers was the second to bloom in 2000, having been beaten by Zephirine Drouhin by only a few hours.
It's now mid-October, 2000, and Golden Showers is covered with hips such as these.
In 2001, Golden Showers had me quite worried. The main canes, now over 1.5" in diameter, died off, and it seemed that I might lose the rose. However, it put out a number of basal breaks, and also a few strong canes off one of the seemingly dead main canes, and has now begun to bloom. I will trim off the dead wood -- it appears that this will be a year of renewal for the rose.
Golden Showers has come back in 2002, with essentially new growth off the stub of the heavy old canes, and has now bloomed.
After the bad winter of 2002-2003, Golden Showers tried putting forth some new growth but it quickly withered and died, and after being with me for 10 years, Golden Showers is no more. RIP.
